A Boy Called Wolfie

A mini opera in which we learn about Mozart’s life and music.
The three main characters are Wolfie (Mozart as a child of 6), his father Leopold and his sister Marianne, often called Nannerl.

The soloists are supported by a 2-part choir - soprano and alto.

1. Ah vous, dirai-je Maman - This song introduces the young Mozart, who plays his variations on the tune of ‘Twinkle, Twinkle’. Historically he would actually write these variations later in his life.

2. That’s My Boy - Leopold makes his entrance with a short recitative. Joined by the choir, he then launches into a rollocking Gilbert and Sullivan-style number about his son.

3. My Little Brother - Nannerl makes her entrance with a simple ballad about her relationship with her brother. Each verse highlights a year in Wolfie’s childhood. There is a change of pace and mood as Wolfie’s amazing achievements unfold.

4. Austrian Idol On Tour - Wolfie was becoming a star. He performed before the royalty of Europe and displayed talents that amused and amazed his audience. Despite his popularity, things didn’t always work out for the travelling trio. Being a star isn’t all that it seems.

5. Genius At Work - Leopold and Nannerl continue the story of Wolfie’s musical development. No longer just a child prodigy on the keyboard and violin, he became a great composer.

6. Live Forever More - The finale features the soloists in dialogue with the choir. Leopold and Nannerl announce that the time has come for Wolfie and them to move on. The choir replies by asking them to stay a bit longer so they can celebrate Wolfie’s achievements. Wolfie joins in at the keyboard. From here on it’s a full-steam-ahead celebration of his music.
