About the SongLibrary

Glyn's ability to create memorable melodies - with clever, insightful lyrics - bring his songs to life. The children and audiences always enjoy them.

What is it and who is it for?

The SongLibrary is a collection of songs written for school choirs, children's community choirs/choruses and the classroom. All songs are composed specifically for children to sing.

If you're a music teacher, or someone who works with children on group singing, you'll find all you need to teach and perform these songs.

A recording of each song and a backing track can be played from your mp3 player or burnt to a CD. Sheet music and lyrics in PDF format are ready for you to print. Details of each song such as lyrics, musical range and style, subject matter, number of parts and more can be viewed on each page.

Some songs also have accompaniments suitable for school orchestras and bands with full scores and parts available to download.

Most of all, SongLibrary provides the resources for music teachers and choir trainers to help children experience the wonder of singing together.

Who writes the songs?

Me (mostly). I’m Glyn Lehmann and I live in Adelaide, Australia. I've been a professional composer, songwriter, arranger and musician for more than 30 years.

For a large part of this time I've worked in:

children's television (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
theatre (State Theatre Company of SA, Windmill Arts, Patch Theatre)
primary schools' choral festivals (South Australian Primary Schools Music Festival, Western Australian Primary Schools Massed Choir Festival)

I believe that children deserve high quality, original music and songs to experience and perform. That's what I strive to create.

I'm an unashamed fan of the great 'pop' song. By this I mean very singable, contemporary, well-crafted songs like the classics from The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, right through to the great songwriters of today.

The songs in the SongLibrary are written with this background in mind. Many aren't 'choral' works in the traditional sense but simply songs written for children to sing together. They are mostly in the pop, rock and world music styles. As a result, SongLibrary songs are a good introduction to group singing for children, and teachers, in elementary and primary schools.

Many of these songs have been performed enthusiastically by tens of thousands of children all around the world.

I value feedback from teachers (and children, of course) about my songs. I intend to build the SongLibrary based on these suggestions. In this way I hope it will become a valuable resource and a collaboration between teacher (YOU?) and songwriter (ME!).
